In Partnership with MacGregor Ranch

What’s a Forest School?

A forest school is a school that draws inspiration from the greatest teacher: Nature. It takes place outside on the dirt and in the weather, and its curriculum is focused on natural rhythms and play.

The Mission of

Free Folk Forest School:

The Free Folk Forest School aims to cultivate groundedness, connection, and passion for nature within our community.

We aim to perpetuate the wild, ancient traditions of the land we inhabit while cultivating a wild-focused village to support parents and their littles.

Free Folk Forest School is a nature-based, caregiver-and-child integration program designed for children ages 0–8 with or without their parents or guardians. Due to the vibrant mix of ages, our curriculum will focus heavily on abstract nature learning rather than “school” subjects like reading and writing.

Who’s it for?

Free Folk Forest School is ecstatic to be partnering with MacGregor Ranch, a 2500 acre land trust bordering the Rocky Mountain National Park here in Estes Park, Colorado. Our classes will take place every Friday from 10 AM - 12 PM starting in the spring (April 24 - May 29) and continuing in summer and fall (July 17 - October 2)

Where and When?

Each Session Includes

  • Nervous System Regulation

We ground our play in ritual opening and closing circle. This is to preserve connectedness and invite safety into the body. Each session is tailored to the season with nervous system grounding and regulation in mind.

  • Minimally Structured Play

Each session will have it’s own theme; within that theme there are often puppet shows, songs, or stories followed by exploratory activities for little ones to engage in - or ! they can choose to freely engage with the forest

  • Multiple Caregivers

Parents are welcome to attend with their Littles, but we will also have multiple caregivers onsite to ensure that all are safe and receiving any helpful one on one attention. Feel free to select the childcare option if you’d prefer not to attend with your Little.
